As one of five clubs in Australia, the Mazda MX-5 Club of Victoria & Tasmania with over 1000 members of all backgrounds, interests, ages and levels of enthusiasm, includes MX-5 owners from throughout Victoria, Tasmania and even a few from southern NSW.

Unlike a lot of car clubs, we don’t have regular member meetings … we prefer to actually get out on the road or on the track and drive the cars, rather than sit and talk about them.

Now the MX-5 is enjoyed by members all around the world and is recognised in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest single-model car club in history.

Whichever is your passion, you’ll find a welcoming bunch of people who all share your passion for the MX-5 and the joy it brings.

The Club is a one-marque club catering only for Mazda MX-5s (and MX-5 variants including Mazda Miatas, Eunos Roadsters and Mazda Roadsters). Despite its origins, the 2017 Fiat 124 Spider is not considered to be an MX-5 variant.

To support members throughout these areas, we have established six “Chapters”: one in Melbourne, one in north-eastern Victoria, one in western Victoria, one in Gippsland, one based in Hobart, one in northern Tasmania and one dedicated to Motorsport.

Each is led by a Chapter Captain and at least one Assistant Captain who organise the running of the Chapter and the yearly calendar of events.

There is usually at least one event in each Chapter per month, normally consisting of a convoy run where members meet and drive together to a pre-determined destination, with perhaps a lunch or dinner opportunity. Through the Club’s website, monthly magazine (mxtra) and e-mails, the officials keep members up to date with events and any other issues that may arise through the Club.

On the Motorsport side, we have an annual championship (usually 8 to 10 rounds) of sprint events (cars against the clock rather than door handle to door handle racing), held at the major motor sport tracks around Victoria (Winton, Phillip Island, Sandown) as well as Broadford and Wodonga TAFE, and occasionally at The Bend in SA.

Some of our members also try their hand at Khanacross, taking part in some of the Gippsland Car Club annual Khanacross Championship rounds or try their hand at online iRacing.

Motorsport Chapter

The Mazda MX-5 is ideal for many forms of motorsport.

The Club runs its own annual Sprint Championship, but Club members participate in other disciplines including khanacross, motorkhana, hillclimb, supersprints, racing and targa events outside of the Club Championship.

You don’t need to be a fast driver, or an experienced one. Just bring your enthusiasm and a desire to get the most from your car and yourself.
