Cary’s Column ....
■ Cary Warren – President
president@mx5vic.org.auG’day all …
I would like to commence Cary’s Column by introducing myself.
For those who know of me, hello … and to new members or members whose paths I have not yet crossed, I look forward to catching up shortly.
A quick background wrap of myself:
I have been an active Club member and Committee member for over 10 years, where I have undertaken various roles within the Committee before recently being nominated to my current position of Club President.
Although I don’t use my MX-5 as my everyday drive, I am a proud owner of a very original 1990 Classic Red NA, where I seize every opportunity I can to get out and about for some roadster fun!
The current and past Committee would like to thank the outgoing President Peter Dannock – Peter is a Life Member of the Club who has held the position of Club President on two occasions, along with various roles within the Committee. Peter is continuing as an active Committee member in the position of Club Permit Officer, for which we are very grateful.
I must also acknowledge our other outgoing Committee team members, whose huge effort helped ensure the Club remained in good stead throughout the pandemic, by managing to continue with limited events and maintaining a solid member base.
For those who are not aware, Will and Coral Campbell and David Collins retired from Committee life at the August AGM. Between them have clocked up a combined total of 55 years of Committee service. So a huge shout out goes not only to them but to their family members for the time and commitment they have all contributed towards the Club.
With a new President there is always an element of change that comes to the Club and Committee.
And after the last three years of working through positioning ourselves in this new world of change, the current Committee will be focusing on further progression to fulfil its longevity.
In my view this can only be achieved with commitment from Club members to step up as volunteers to serve on the Committee and to assist with planning and leading events,
and with contributions to mxtra.
Heading into this new term with four Committee positions vacant imposes additional pressure on those who are already at stretching point with Committee duties.
As the old adage goes, a club is only as strong as its members – and, as we emerge from the pandemic haze, it’s time we heeded those words, with more members contributing to ensure we keep our Club active and strong!
Therefore, we need your input, so please: if you have ever considered hosting a run, assisting the Motorsport team, or joining in on our monthly meetings now is the time for you to assist.
Any level of commitment will make a positive difference!
Till next month, remember …
Driving an MX-5 is therapy to escape.

■ Murray Finlay – Membership Officer, Club Legend | membership@mx5vic.org.au
Hello …
I’m back as Membership Officer after a break of about 25 years.
When I last did this job people paid by cheque or money order, and I sent out a paper receipt … in an envelope, with a stamp.
I know!
However, with the outgoing Membership man, Hall of Fame member Will Campbell, having been away and then in COVID isolation since the AGM, we haven’t yet had a chance to do a handover. So, bless him, Will has compiled this month’s report and membership recognitions.
We welcome 11 new members who have joined in the last month, and wish them all the best for a long and happy association with the Club.
