History

2005-group

The Mazda MX-5 Club of Victoria was formed in 1990, just a few months after the first MX-5s appeared on our roads. It is one of five clubs in Australia, and takes in members from throughout Victoria and Tasmania.

Our Club started with a gathering of 130 MX-5 owners on 6 May, 1990 – the first in the southern hemisphere – and was launched formally on 10 August, 1990 here in Melbourne, home of Mazda Australia. With 167 members it was one of the largest inaugural memberships of any car club in Australia’s history. Now the MX-5 is enjoyed by members all around the world and is recognised in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest single-model car club in history.

Our Victorian and Tasmanian club has a membership of around 700 who enjoy a broad range of activities catering to both the motorsport-oriented and social members of the Club. With MX-5 clubs in every Australian state, we have a national gathering called “NatMeet” every second year, bringing together owners from all around the country (and sometimes beyond) in the one place to talk, have fun and show off their pride and joy.

South Australia is hosting the next “NatMeet” in the Barossa Valley in 2018 (find out more about NatMeet).
